I have the option of buying a Viking 660E for about $800! I don't know what to do as I was aiming more at the Brother PE770 or the Innovis, beginner here. Does anyone know if the Viking has to constantly be hooked up to the computer.....any opinions on the price would be WONDERFUL......I am so new and so hesitant here because all the machines sounds wonderful. Thanks so much!

Buy what you can afford with USB connectivity, an embroidery area of at least 5 x 7 (the 600E has all this and more) and from a dealer where you can touch and test the machines, receive service when necessary, ask questions and take classes or receive lessons.

Purchasing from a website or an individual will not provide you with services as needed, answer questions or offer lessons.

New, first owner machines have warranties and used machine do not. Although, sometimes a dealer will offer their own limited guarantee on a used machine.

I found one site for the Viking that gave a through overview and a price of $1,200. This review is almost two years old and I do not know if the price is that of a particular dealer, or the MSRP.

Review for Viking 600E

The 600E does look enticing...compare with the list given in the review to make sure all the accessories are with the machine.

PS:The only sewing machines that need to be connected to a computer to embroider are the older model Singers that were not computerized.

My flyer from my local Joann Viking Sewing Gallery is showing the H|CLASS™ 600E is on clearance for $699, while quantities last. Looks like a good deal!

The 770 has a proven track record and not as much information out there on the Viking.

I like that the Viking 660E has a substantial embroidery area,260 mm x 160 mm,a large 18 1/2” x 11” embroidery area. One can embroider larger designs faster with just one hooping, instead of splitting embroidery designs.Sometimes it can be difficult to embroider split designs on an embroidery machine with a smaller embroidery area.

The ability to customize embroidery designs on computer screen:
– Combine multiple designs into one design file and add lettering.
– Select custom colors for threads. The software includes thread charts with color numbers for the most popular brands of embroidery thread.
– Rotate embroidery designs in one degree increments for perfect placement and design possibilities.
– Flip embroidery designs horizontally and/or vertically or repeat embroidery designs.
– Resize to reduce or enlarge the embroidery design to use it on any project.

You can look at all the neat features here.

Edited to add,a local dealer has a boxing week special sale,25% off all machines in stock. The store was closed this past week. His boxing week special sale is only this week on Monday and Tuesday. I bet the store will be busy.

I think 280x160 is 11x6 inches. The larger size 480x280 is for multi hooping. Does mult-hooping mean split designs or moving the hoop to sew a longer design?

Its a lot of machine for that price! Does more than the 770. I love the longer hoop--great for lettering. I do wish there were more reviews but if it works well, it'd be a great buy..especially at that price. I was looking for pictures of the built-in designs..250 is a lot and 20 fonts? wow!

Hancock's has this one on sale right now, it is a Singer but sure looks like the same as the Viking for $699. Says the large hoop is 6x10 so that is pretty cool if it can stitch out an embroidery design that large. The machine doesn't have any editing features, it all has to be done on the computer and hooked up to your machine but what a great price! Link The sale is through Jan 8 for this machine.
