Date: 2/2/13 11:18 AM I did the FBA on this basic top several months ago. I had it all drawn out, but never was able to get to it to sew it.
Today I decided to sew it to see how well my attempts at a FBA worked.
They didn't.
The back is larger than the front at the shoulders. Since I initially did this several months ago, I don't know what I did to cause this problem. The 'clip' mark for lining up the shoulder seams doesn't line up as indicated by the blue arrows.

I can line up the slip marks, but then the neckline is off.
OK, I'm an idiot. Can someone look at these photos and perhaps tell me what I did wrong - or didn't do right initially?
I'm 90% certain I did the FBA correctly. Was I supposed to adjust the back? This is a woven muslin so stretching to fit isn't an option.
thanks,

Date: 2/2/13 1:22 PM You may have removed the seam allowances to perform the FBA and then not added them back to the pattern front. |

Date: 2/2/13 2:36 PM Maybe you did a narrow shoulder adjustment to the front and forgot to do it on the back? |

Date: 2/2/13 3:52 PM Did you try comparing it to the original pattern before the fba? That may give you more clues than anything.

Date: 2/3/13 9:10 AM I'm still not sure WHAT I did. I looked at the original pattern and the shoulder seams match. I used my french curve to trim the back so it matches the front. today I'm going to sew it together.
I'm more interested in how the FBA comes out than anything.
I'm wondering if I used the wrong pattern pieces. ie: used "E" for the front and "F" for the back? The necklines are different.
I'm really wondering if I'm cut out to sew anything. I am always having problems and really feel like a pest. I have a Silhouette pattern that has the FBA built in. I'm going to try that today also if I can find some stretch fabric. I think PS got tired of my questions because she never answers my emails and I'm pretty sure they get there.
I am forever grateful to all of you who put up with me and my part time 'sewing' or attempts at it. One of these days I'm hoping I'll make something I feel good about actually wearing |

Date: 2/3/13 11:03 AM avatrx, don't ever stop asking questions. Most of us here on PR have needed help from time to time. That's why we are here, to help each other
Even after 38 years of sewing, I still do the occasional "duh" thing. Just a few months ago, I put a wrong side to a right side when making a blouse. Got it all stitched up and couldn't figure out why the other side didn't pin on right |

Date: 2/3/13 11:14 AM I can't tell you how many wadders I have done causing me to swear off sewing. I somehow come back because ready to wear fits worse than anything I have made.
Sometimes it is less frustrating to just start over.

Date: 2/4/13 10:38 AM Didn't get around to sewing the top yesterday but will this morning. If it looks AT ALL decent, I'll post photos even though it's a muslin. Just won't wear my polka-dot b/w bra.
I also traced out 'Catherine's Top' which is a Silhouette top and has the FBA done already. I just hate the thought of sewing on stretch fabric. I just got thru with jammies for the granddaughters with stretchy microfleece and that started out as a nightmare. seams didn't lie flat etc.
by the time I got done with those - I think I figured out to use a narrow zigzag - not the stretch stitch. but the stretch fabric I have for this Silhouette pattern is a jersey knit and I've never sewn on it before. It IS part of my stash and if I don't use it now - I'll probably NEVER use it, so I'll bite the bullet and just do it.
I hope I don't regret this. It gets VERY frustrating. It's a good way to ruin an entire day...........
thanks to all.

Date: 2/4/13 1:31 PM Can there have been a shoulderdart in the back of the pattern?
