Date: 2/3/13 1:00 PM So next week my DS and DIL are moving there! From Atlanta!
My son has lived in Atlanta his entire life. He's never even stepped foot on the West Coast. But he accepted a job in this town, sight unseen, and off he goes.
I suppose some of you have sons/daughters who are farther away than that - maybe deployed to the Middle East or such. But this is my first chickadee to fly the coop. And if he likes it there he may stay forever and raise my future grandchildren there! I think it is a fairly small town and of course they won't know anyone there. Especially for my DIL I imagine it will be difficult being so far away and not knowing anyone. Hopefully she will find a job too and some way to fit in.
If anyone lives near there, please give me the 411. Thanks!

Date: 2/3/13 2:01 PM I live about an hour away. It is a beautiful area. It is rather secluded though only a ferry's ride away from beautiful Victoria BC. Most people from "the peninsula" come down to do their shopping in Silverdale where the mall, Costco, Trader Joes, Target, etc are located. Otherwise, grocery stores and Wal Mart are in the Port Angeles area. I'm from sunny California and spent 10 years in the south which I loved. But now I would love to retire in this area and never move. The winters took a couple of seasons to get use to as they are long and rainy. But otherwise this has been my favorite place we've lived. ------ http://sweetnotions.blogspot.com/ |

Date: 2/3/13 2:39 PM It's been a good many years since I spent time there, but it's a beautiful area..close to the Olympic National Park and Sequim (the tropics of Washington)...
It used to be a lumber/fishing town..my uncle lived there during the winter's and others have retired to Sequim...

Date: 2/3/13 5:57 PM Thanks for the info. It does sound like a beautiful place although quite different from bustling Metro Atlanta! I kind of get the impression that it has an older demographic- a lot of retirees maybe? When my DIL was calling around for apartments, the only ones she could find were 55+ communities. I'm just wondering how these 20-something kids who grew up in a large suburban area are going to adjust to a totally different change of pace
???
Oh, and PS, I clicked on the link above. The Olympic Medical Center they mention is where my son will be working. :) -- Edited on 2/3/13 6:08 PM -- ------ Margaret (Singer 201-2), Betty (Singer 15-91), Bud (Singer 503), Kathy (Singer 221), Liz (Singer 221 Centennial Edition)
