So I'm about to construct a muslin for Vogue 9668 view C. Since I am making a muslin to work out my fitting issues, I would also like to move the zipper to the side and have no seams down the center back. I'm not sure what I want to do about the back slit though. I know I could add a slit(s) to the side seams, but what are my other options? I always prefer the look of a back vent to a back slit, and with a lining I like the finish much better too. I'm not sure if a side vent(s) would look weird though?

I'd be surprised if the CB seam for view C didn't have shaping built into it - if not for the midriff band, definitely in the skirt piece. You could replace the shaping at the waist with an additional dart, maybe? And then you'd still have the problem of walking ease without a vent or slit. I think this might be more complicated to change than it's worth doing.

You can't just only delete and get rid of the backseam, and cut it straight on the fold of the fabric instead, because it would not be straight there. So unless you wanted to attempt to do that, and put some kind of dart in only the center of the top of the back skirt that was shaped like that center back seam instead, (then you got a dart going down from backwaist over and down your backside in a pretty odd place) I too, think you are sort of stuck with the back seam.

You could put a walking slit anyplace you want though, it could be in a side seam, or both of them and not in the back seam. Or if you wanted something in the back seam that was not just a a slit there, you could maybe put a little triangle top gusset in the bottom of the back seam instead, if it would really give enough room to walk. Or make it out of 4 way stretch fabric and maybe possible just pull over your head and forget about all zippers and skirt slits maybe, if fabric was really stretchy enough. Looks like a very fitted and tight and kind of long slim skirt though, so if it did not stretch, I think you got to have something there or you won't be able to walk or probably even get into a car.

For your muslin, you can certainly move the zipper to the side seam, but leave the CB seam for the reasons the other replies mentioned, and because that CB seam is another adjustment line for fitting purposes.

A hemline slit or kick pleat is for easier movement when walking whenever the skirt has a smaller circumference than needed for a normal stride. You can simply leave it out of a muslin. I am assuming that you are just making this as a fitting muslin, not intending to actually wear it.

For the slit you could do an opening like on a slit front top (interfaced and lined, stitched slit and turned under and stitched down) , or like the slit on a cuffed blouse sleeve (narrow bias strip). Many tunics have the slit front opening. you would still have an issue of stress on the vee of the slit.

I have way too many yards to count, and I will never use them up, but I will die trying!
