Did you check Etsy? Sometimes its the best place for the "odd" or hard to find things. HTH

The correct spelling is Loden. Try that and your search may get easier.

The real McCoy, or real Loden, is an incredibly heavy and dense woolen, felted fabric, as described here.. It is designed for truly fierce winter conditions (as well as for taking care of original sin through pain and suffering).

There are probably a few places you can buy it in the US, such as moodfabrics.com or britex.com.

I have 2 pieces, one the traditional green and one a beautiful gray. It was purchased in Austria by my Mother in a factory where a relative of my Father's worked in the late 60's. My Dad was born in a nearby village. they were meant to be made into coats for each of my brothers, but I think my Mom realized that it was really too heavy for her to sew. She gave them to me years ago and I have never done anything with them except keep them nicely wrapped and under my bed. I can't seem to give them away. What do you plan to do with it?

Thanks everyone For the info there is loads of it in every colour at myfabrics thanks martip and some at bandjfabrics and briitex. There are quite a few coats and jackets in Burda magazine that call for Loden cloth sometimes knit Loden and other times fulled wool loden, and the one I really have my heart set on requires SEQUINED loden- I doubt I will find any of that in Australia! the one at britex is described as flannel and the more expensive one at b & j is described as solid coating. Does any one know what tryolean Loden and walkloden and milled Loden and Loden Graz mean?

Elona,

Is this what "hair shirts" were made from? I read a lot of historical novels and some biographies, and always wondered.
