This class is on the Zippered welt pocket, which you will be able to use in tailored jackets. We aren't covering drafting patterns for jackets here.
The Tailored Jacket CD that I sell, covers making a jacket, from the point when you get the main pattern pieces to fit. Using the main pattern pieces that fit, I cover how to make patterns for all of the different corollary pieces, such as interfacing, facing, and lining patterns for that jacket.
After that, the Tailored Jacket CD shows the process of making the jacket, in lots of photos, and I'm told it is clear and easy to follow.
Learning how to draft a jacket is not something one can learn in a small amount of time. Perhaps you have a community college in your area to go, where you can learn pattern drafting--if you have experience in making patterns for women's wedding clothes, making jackets is something you can learn to do. The pattern drafting CD's I sell here will help you to learn the sleeves, and collars, and such...

Subject: class schedule? Date: 12/14/05 8:38 PM Hello,
I'm a bit confused about the class schedule - 1st (and only, I assume) chat is Feb 5, class starts Feb 5, ends one week later?
Are the lessons available prior to Feb 5?
I go on travel a lot for work, and don't always know when. So, for me, it would be nice to have more than a week to work on the lessons in case that turns out to be a week I won't be home.
Thanks for any info about the schedule.

Subject: class timing info from Deepika Date: 12/15/05 8:07 PM Just wanted to post Deepika's response, in case any one else was curious about the timing:
"Yes I will make the lessons available sooner than Feb 5th so you'll have much more than a week to work on them."
So, I'll be signing-up and awaiting lessons in the new year!
Thanks,

Subject: ribbon question! Date: 1/14/06 10:40 PM Hi Ken,
Is there a special ribbon used in making the zippered welt? I live in Taiwan and the types of ribbon here are limited--wide grosgrain, for example, is not available. Even petersham can be hard to find. Is there a specific ribbon that should be used for best results, or is it just a width guideline? Because there are plenty of widths of satin ribbon here. I will go on a research mission right away after your guidance. ------ Returning to sewing after a year off

You do need a ribbon which is precisely 7/8" wide (no exceptions) and has a woven edge. It can either be a satin or grossgrain but the width is most important.

Reply to Katharine in BXL Subject: Re: ribbon question! Date: 1/15/06 10:16 AM Deepika is right on this one--you need a ribbon that is 7/8" or 22-23mm wide, and woven edge. It can be satin, grosgrain, or double-faced satin, the fiber can be man-made or natural. But the requirements are: 7/8" or 22-23mm wide, and woven edge... Next page>> |

Subject: Chats Date: 10/9/09 2:53 PM Will there be a transcript of the chats in case I couldn't make it to one of them?
Also, is this a class that an advanced beginner could take?
Thanks!
