When purchasing multiple zippers on sale, which size would be best to order? I'd like to take advantage of the invisible zipper sale at Wawak, but I'm unsure which size would give me the most options. How long is long enough? Can you shorten invisible zippers?

I just saw Angela Wolf shorten an invisible zipper on It's Sew Easy.
Here is one of several you can find on the Internet.

As for choosing length, what size do you use the most.

Thanks for the link on shortening zippers. As for length, I don't have a most often used size being a beginning garment sewer. Since they can be shortened, I'd prefer to have zippers that are too long rather than too short. I suppose a back zipper on a dress would be the longest I would use. Is there an average length for these?

So far, with the dresses I've been making, the average zipper size is around 16" or 22", but I love the 22". Like you said, it's always easier to shorten.

This depends on your build and height. I sometimes have to add up to 2" to the waist length on dresses and since I'm pear shaped I like to extend the zipper even more so I can just step into the dress rather than have to pull it over my head. I also like to sew the bottom of the seam before installing the zipper, so I allow at least 1" extra for that. If I am making a dress that falls a few inches below the back of my neck or will be installed in a side seam then I get a 24" one, otherwise I get them in 30" and chop off the extra length. But if you're more petite or short waisted then 22-24" is plenty.
