Pattern for a skirt like Mila Kunis wore in a movie I have a picture

Date: 2/5/13 12:30 PM So this is your skirt: I am pretty sure this is the skirt you are thinking of: Isabelle Marant knock-off @ Les Potins d'Elinka Saw it on a couple of French sewing blogs but there is a similar skirt in Drape Drape, IIRC. Both bloggers insist on getting very thin, but VERY stretchy knits for this. Now the tutorial is in Fr but I believe the images are pretty clear. If not, feel free to request a translation, n'est-ce pas? Seems tricky that it's so stretchy? Nina

Seems tricky that it's so stretchy? You're welcome! I do think it is a very cute skirt, too! Having sewn knits with a zigzag stitch on a straight machine first, then with a serger for the overlock stitch, I honestly don't believe this skirt is hard to sew, even for a beginner. Some people have a lightening stitch on their machines that is specifically there to sew knits without a serger. You might want to check if yours has one. The toughest part might be putting on the elastic waist but even that is a question of being able to pull the elastic taught WHILE sewing it on. As for the stretch, some people use glue sticks and the like to "hold" knits together instead of pins but I think basting might be a better way here. Gives you more control. I suggest trying to figure out the twisting thing out as well as the elastic waist application on a rectangular scrap of knit fabric. As if you were sewing for a mini-me version of you, right? This tutorial is so good! Even though I have only "cooking terms French" I can follow this! My DD is going to love this skirt. I have done a google translation which, although hilarious in parts, filled in a few blanks. Thank goodness I don't need to "mortgage my body parts" or buy it for "the modest sum of one kidney and a half" (per google) to make this cute little skirt. ------ Jenny, Perth, WA
