Hi all! New to this group! Does anybody have any sources for dog/novelty fabric? As a groomer and a sewer, always looking for dog themed fabric! Thank you in advance!

We have our dog groomed and over the years of moving around had our share with groomers for our bassett hounds. I don't mean to offend you but perhaps you are open to food for thought from a customer perspective.

A few hints- just because a dog is short doesnt mean his/her neck is. Please don't use a tiny bandana and add an extra length of fabric to get it to tie- it looks tacky.

I don't dislike dog theme fabrics. I wash, iron, press and recycle them for animal charity fundraisers. But I love to sew so please consider non-dog theme, very coloful prints. I recycle them all the time to make other crafts for myself and others.

If you have small quilt shops in your area support them. Get to know them. You may find good end of bolt deals on dog or novelty fabrics, perhaps leave your card- the same dog owners buying dog fabric there may be looking for a groomer. And they have unique fabrics you won't find online.

If you have local chain fabric stores, support them. Drop your business card off- they always run coupons and you won't pay tax if you are a business.

If you are on a shoestring, shop thrift stores. Ask in the back. They throw out tons of fabric. Look for wild colorful prints.

Finally- if you are going into the specialty route and want a certain breed or high quality fabric, try Spoonflower. They will design and print anything on quality fabric - your logo, a specific breed and use brilliant colors.

I scoured the Internet for years looking for Basset themed fabric. Best I could find was mixed with other breeds. J&O was often best- at least in stock. But hard to gauge quality. Often what arrived was really cheap fabric. But some nice ones too.

I love my current groomer. She has not repeated a bandana in nearly 2 years. They are large, high quality fabric in fun & bright prints- bugs, butterflies, picnics, sport themes, cars, beach, etc. I have made dog collars, wallets, patchwork fabric, purses/totes, placemats, coasters, you name it. She and her staff love getting back little things like that from me.

Good luck in your adventure!

My mom sews dog coats out of fleece. She always finds selection at Joanns with paw or bone prints.

Thanks for all your replies. I have fabric from the one place that was mentioned that they made for me with my own dog on it.

I've been grooming for twelve years, so no worries, I only put bandanas on dogs that fit! I don't try to "scrap" or "save"! I also see a lot of items for clients when time allows and that was why I had asked about "dog fabric". I do use all sorts of fabric here, was jus looking for some different sources as we do not have big fabric stores or quilt stores. Usually 30 + miles away. I do believe in buying local and supporting local businesses, as I wouldn't be where I am today if people didn't do that for me!

Thank you, for the kind replies!
