Date: 2/6/13 5:35 PM I have Fiskars, and the Fiskars sharpeners don't restore them to their original.
I have Mundial and the Accusharp doesn't do a good job.
I have Scotch Titaniums I used for fleece and can't get them sharp. Is it the new non-steel blades or what? Some will normally cut knits and some will cut only cottons.
Should I raid H's workshop and see if he has an old whetstone?

Fabric stores use to have someone come to the store once or twice a year, or they would send the scissors out for sharpening.
Some of the small hardware stores sharpen scissors. |

 1 member likes this. And the answer is...rotary cutter! just change the blade when it gets dull. Can't use them for everything, but they do have sharper edges than most scissors or shears.
Gingher has good quality scissors and will sharpen them for you, but you are without them while they are away to get that edge. Sarah Veblen said on one of the class boards that she has several pairs of Ginghers so that when she sends them off to be sharpened she always has a couple freshly sharpened ones on hand.
I've never had Kai scissors, but I hear they are better than most brands. Might be worth trying them. J Kimes is a couture/expert member here on PR. She was featured not too long ago. Recently I saw a post by her recommending Kai because they were the best, sharpest shears she'd ever used.

Date: 2/6/13 9:08 PM Check with your local sewing machine dealer. At least two dealers in my area also sharpen scissors. Price ranges from $3-$8 a pair and you have to leave them (not done while you wait) but both do a good job. |

Date: 2/7/13 3:14 AM Someone posted late last year about old fashioned whetstone for sharpening. Whats sold now a days for sharpening just doesnt work as well. I think we need to be looking in hunting and knife supply catalogues! ------
