14 members like this. Date: 2/7/13 8:45 AM I just want to say thank you to the PR members who report spam/advertising through the Objectionable Post button.
For those who don't know, here is some info on moderation. We are volunteers and not sitting at our computers all the time on PR. When an OP comes in for one of a forum we moderate, that OP shows up in our personal email. I check/see my personal email more often than I am on PR so I will see an OP pretty quickly.
Today, the OP messages came in around 1am my time when I was sound asleep but as soon as I got onto my email this am (about 8:30), there were the OPs and I could delete those ads from my board.
As other mods wake up, check email etc, the rest will disappear.
Thanks for keeping PR focused on the right thing - sewing!!

2. HDWen, never feel bad about objecting to objectional people. They don't feel at all bad about being objectionalabe. Over the years ive seen too many good forums collapse due to spam. The "real" members finally had to throw their hands up and walk away. Witness all of the ghost towns on yahoo.
3. Thanks again for your effortss JEF. |

Spam is not part of a discussion. It's just "junk mail." For example, early this morning there were numerous ads posted by the same person about a particular product. He or she blitzed PR by posting the same message in several different places. After I saw this thread, I did a quick search for the poster's name and a keyword in the message. One or two spam messages still seemed to be "live," so I reported them.
There are a few people whose opinions in discussions don't sit well with the majority, but that doesn't make them "objectionable people," and their posts are not spam.

Date: 2/7/13 2:09 PM I'll second JEF's post. It's not always possible to be there immediately, but we all do our best to follow up on the OP emails. Spam is easily gotten rid of. It gets a bit more difficult when a poster is just inside the bounds of the Posting Guidelines. For the most part, my experience is that PR people do try to walk the Golden Rule, doing unto others as they would have others do unto them. ------ "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." Date: 2/7/13 2:58 PM I, too, sincerely appreciate the volunteers on the boards! And I have to say you are quite efficient since I don't think I've ever seen any spam. Is it people advertising 'designer sneakers' and such? |
