Date: 2/7/13 9:20 PM My neighbor was having problems sewing on her BL 1550. She's a beginner sewer and wasn't sure if it was her or the machine. So I volunteered to look at it. I gave it an oiling and good delinting. Sews well.
I go to wind the bobbin and the handwheel won't turn to disengage the needle. I guess she could wind it with the needle going up and down but I'd like to fix it for her if I can. Any advice? -- Edited on 2/8/13 12:33 PM -- |

Date: 2/8/13 2:03 AM I'm stuck at step 1. I can unscrew the screw but the knob won't come off. I tried prying it off with a flat head screw driver. Something is seriously stuck in there. |

Date: 2/8/13 4:05 AM Try tapping the handwheel and knob a few times. If that doesn't help, try prying again - tap the screwdriver handle as you move it around the knob, applying pressure. You may find some dripping some oil or penetrant in first may help. ------ chris

Date: 2/8/13 8:08 PM Sorry..I looked a picture of the BL1550. I think the design is different than my Janome L344. -- Edited on 2/8/13 9:03 PM -- |

1 member likes this. Date: 2/8/13 9:51 PM The outer ring of the hand wheel is the "clutch release knob." it should disengage. I would recommend a servicing. ------ "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible."

Date: 2/10/13 0:27 AM Hi Nhi, while the machine in this link is different from the machine you're describing, the principle of why the needle won't disengage is the same; this will hopefully give you an idea of what part needs to be lubricated on the machine you're working on.

Subject: Needle wont disengage when winding bobbin Date: 2/10/13 3:02 PM Warm up the center knob with a hair dryer to see if this will soften any oil/lint build up.
Another option might be buying and using a Sidewinder to wind the bobbins. |
