Date: 2/8/13 9:40 AM Researching for a new machine later on in the year. I have a Bernina 180. Works great Won't backstitch? Strangely... embroiders great. Walking foot is a dream. Ruffles wonderfully. It's just older interface.
I sew mostly with knits. I do embroidery but not TONS. That being said, the embroideries I use are very details.
I want jump stitches to be cut within embroidery for sure. I'm super interested in dual feet/ IDT. Althought my Bernina walking foot works like a dream!
Everything else is obvious... I was looking at a 630 used that I like! It will cut jump stitches but not within an embroidery :o/
$3500 is really the price I'm shooting for. No more than $4000. I can and do prefer used to save $

Date: 2/8/13 9:51 AM PCS = B830. Could also compare to the B780, although the CS has more features and a larger embroidery area.
PCS isn't going to be found for $4K, nor is the B830 or B780. You'd have to double that budget. -- Edited on 2/8/13 9:52 AM -- ------ I heart Panzy, Pfaff Creative Performance, the sewing machine love of my life! Date: 2/8/13 9:57 AM The Pfaff Creative Performance will cost around 6K with embroidery as well as the Bernina 750.
Both with out Under 4000 for the PCP and mid 4000 for the Bernina.
Viking Ruby is around 5 plus.
with embroidery.
I have the 630/35 with embroidery and it is great. Small field in comparison to the PCP. But if embrodery is not big on your list it maybe your best bet.

1 member likes this. Date: 2/8/13 10:03 AM Yeah, you'll be hard pressed to even find the Pfaff Creative Performance with embroidery for $3500. My dealer sells sewing machine only for that. It's $5K with embroidery.
The differences in the machines you of course would weigh for yourself. 830 is very customizable in many ways, and has the large bobbin, and it's dual feed is adjustable. The Pfaff has some interesting features all it's own as well!
For the budget you have, you'd need to increase it a bit and consider used if you are looking at any of the TOL machines of today. My suggestion is to make yourself a spreadsheet. Makes it easier to compare the features. Each website has a brochure on it showing all the features -- they are just called different things! ------ Bernina 730E, 530, and 350PE

Date: 2/8/13 10:04 AM She's looking at comparisons to the Creative Sensation. That would be the B830, and the Creative Sensation retails for around $8K. 1 member likes this. Date: 2/8/13 11:28 AM Bernina 630 has no thread cutter as it is a 5.5 mm machine. A honey though! I gave up a few years ago and bought a Bernina Deco 340 (like the Janome 350, but I already had the Bernina Software) and it does beautiful embroidery and does cut the jump stitches. That said I am not a big embroiderer so this might not work for everyone. There is a giga hoop available but I am happy with the two that came with it. When I go to replace one of my machines I can get a pretty nice machine without the cost of embroidery. I am awaiting the Bernina 710 right now. The Pfaff Creative Performance comes with or without embroidery as does the Bernina 750 and both can be added later too.

That is an amazing price for the PCP! Here I was quoted $6,000
Remember to ask if it with the largest embroidery unit. I think it comes also with a smaller one for quite a bit less.
