Date: 2/8/13 12:15 PM Scrolling through CL last night, I found a Pfaff 230 for sale. $200 with a cabinet and added misc. "etc". I called the seller and asked a few questions, but got the vibe I was bothering him. It also helped that DH emphatically said, "NO!" and reminded me of the vintage machine gathering dust downstairs.
So, help me out! Give me one good reason (and funny/sarcastic counts) to NOT drive an hour to check out this machine and buy it.
Prize: My appreciation for your humor and proof that you're able to not be an "enabler"! C'mon... help silence the voice in my head that keeps me going back to look at the "Black Beauty" on CL! ------ When life gets you down... Just Keep Sewing!

Date: 2/8/13 12:19 PM No to the Black Beauty, coz you want to keep DH in a good mood for when you bring home that Pfaff Creative Performance with large embroidery unit and all the Pfaff feet, hoops, cutwork set, yarn couching set and every other accessory, plus the Babylock Enlighten serger and BL Coverstitch machines (unless you do decide to just snag the BL Evolution), causing your bank (and DH) to go into shock spasms.
Hope that helps! ------ I heart Panzy, Pfaff Creative Performance, the sewing machine love of my life! And Rupert (Pfaff 2023), Baby (BL Enlighten), Victor (BLCS), Ash (Bernina 350SE), Pal (Bernina 530), Kee (Bernina 750) and the Featherteen Flock!
Most of all, I heart Woo (HimmyCat). Until we meet again, my beautiful little boy. I love you. |

Date: 2/8/13 12:35 PM Because,
1) truly, deep inside your heart, you really love that vintage machine gathering dust downstairs.
2) Diversions are okay, but you are truly a vintage machine lover.
3) It's an hour's drive and gas is expensive
4) You want to take DH with you when you buy another machine, some fancy TOL model
5) You were "bothering" the seller, and he knows nothing about this machine; he wants to sell you junk. ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. The key is to respect and live within Her." Jean-Charles Boisset, Winemaker

1 member likes this. Date: 2/8/13 1:16 PM I have learned to differentiate between the *you are a crazy sewing machine fanatic* look and an emphatic NO. The emphatic no would give me pause. With emphatic no, you have to explain yourself, and perhaps it's just not worth it?
ETA: Plus, any negative phone vibe means no hour long drive. You'll only be bothering him more in person. -- Edited on 2/8/13 1:17 PM -- ------ Bernina 730E, 530, and 350PE

Date: 2/8/13 1:27 PM LynnRowe, there's no space for all those other machines, as I already have my Brother 6 needle embroidery machine, next to the serger, which is to the right of the Viking Iris (my standard machine), and the Janome Cover Pro on the end. Maybe the reason my 1926 vintage White Rotary is gathering dust is because it's across the room, all by itself. It probably feels as lonely as it looks! Although the Kenmore that I learned to sew on is in a bag right next to it...
See, there's a reason why that "NO" was emphatic! ------ When life gets you down... Just Keep Sewing!

A DH of mine could *try* saying no to me...wouldn't get him anywhere though. ------ I heart Panzy, Pfaff Creative Performance, the sewing machine love of my life! 2 members like this. Date: 2/8/13 2:31 PM DH did the emphatic no to the kitchen remodel, and so I let it go for two years.
I was able to make him see why it needed to be done. But, I had to give him time.
Instead of pouting or getting angry, I waited. Then one night I sat him down to talk. I pointed out the things that really made my job harder in there, and needed improvement. I used logic, not emotion.
But, overall - while we make most every decisions together -- when DH says no and it's emphatic, I respect that. It's just the way we work. If I'm emphatic no about something, he respects that too! ------ Bernina 730E, 530, and 350PE
