Types you use that can be sewn thru?
I had some of the narrowest Heat N' Bond that drove me crazy, paper unrolling and web sticking to itself--maybe it was old?

Sometimes a glue is easier than dealing with a tape, as in knit hems where it doesn't stick well.

I never use glues, but I do use tapes -- for everything I sew. My favorite tapes include Steam-A-Seam and Steam-A Seam Lite, both for knits (Joann's); Dritz 1/8" two sided tape (Cleaner's Supply/Wawak websites); and 1/4" Leather Tape (Cleaner's Supply/Wawak).

You technically aren't supposed to sew through the Dritz 1/8" tape (or the extra strong Leather Tape). But the Dritz tape is so narrow at 1/8" that it's not a problem. Also I do sew through my tapes sometimes, and if the needle gets a little gummy, I simply clean it with a small alchohol wipe. It takes ten seconds, and I don't even have to remove the needle from the machine.

Steam-a-Seam and ordinary glue stick from the paper aisle at the grocery store.

Maybe you can tell me; I have asked this question of multiple suppliers and never received a real answer.

Since Lapel Stick is so much more costly, how is it any different from ordinary glue sticks?

Thanks!

Although I have not had a problem with Steam A Seam. Do a small section at a time, press to hold the tape in place, let it cool a bit and move on.

You want the product to cool, or in the case of the glues, dry before sewing.

In my studio I always have Lite Steam-a-Seam, Lite Steam-a-Seam 2 (in both 1/4" and 1/2" widths), HeatNBond Lite (the one you can easily sew through), Aleene's Fabric Fusion Glue Pen, Aleene's Tacky Glue Pen, Aleene's Jewel It Glue, Aleene's Patch & Applique Glue, and Aleene's Jewelry Metal Glue.

Keep in mind I do a lot of embellish for skating, dance, gymnastics, bodybuilding so need to have a lot of different adhesives around to serve those needs.

For personal sewing I find I use the 2 Steam-a-Seams and the Patch & Applique Glue quite frequently. I'm sure once I get more into quilting that I will use more of the HeatNBond for doing applique quilts.

My hunch is Lapel Stick is identical to regular Glue Stick but repackaged for garment sewing and wearing.

Thanks, that's just what I was thinking. $4.00-$5.00 per stick is a little pricey. They would have to be much, much better for me to spend that much.
I have even used the dollar store ones. I think there were three in a package. But I usually get them at a big box store when school supplies are on sale.
