3 members like this. Date: 2/9/13 8:42 PM I'm in my 50's and pretty conservative. I wear a size 12 and I'm 5' 5". I'm looking for a good basic with the right cut for spring and I usually just wear flats with this type of pant.
You won't hurt my feelings if these are really dumpy. I need to know!!
eta: I apologize - I'm not sure how to make the image smaller!

Date: 2/9/13 8:58 PM I think these are cute and they don't look dumpy to me--the fabric choice could make or break them. I don't know about your shape but I've found that the Burda pants fit me very nicely. Good luck! Martha |

Date: 2/9/13 9:41 PM I think they could look great...but I would skip a bright print. |

Date: 2/9/13 9:56 PM I think they would look best with heels...But this is just my opinion. Maybe wearing them with wedges...? ------ Irina Grace

And they are narrow so you can wear a blousant or loose top (or a tank + overshirt) with it.
Don't you feel that 60's Jacky O vibe?
Based on what I have seen on the runway and in magazines (Burdastyle!) prints are in. And the Pantone color this year is green.
Sooo, I would recommend either a solid color you look good in OR a small black and white print (or whatever your neutral is: navy, chocolate brown, etc)
If you make it a color, you can wear a white shirt over it with accents the color your pants are.
If you make it black and white or whatever neutral, you can wear pastel colored tops or brighter colors that flatter you.
Either way, you win. ------ Fashion Maté, where I blog about what I (eventually) sew : http://fashionmate.blogspot.com

Date: 2/9/13 10:08 PM Thanks for the advice on heels. I did get a nice pair recently and I just need to make myself wear them!
eta: thank you all for the tips and especially for styling advice. Now that I'm home, I just don't see what people are wearing. That's the only thing I missed about the day job. :D
I'd love to order the Willow pant from StyleArc but I'm still losing weight. Burdas come with all the sizes and it's pretty easy to trace them off.

Date: 2/9/13 11:32 PM I like that style and find the fit with side zip to be very flattering on my size 12 curves. I would skip large prints, which draws attention to bottom half figure flaws. Flats or wedges would make the look.
Good luck! ------ 2012 yardage sewn: 102.75 yds

Heels are cute but not necessary. If you Google-image Talbot's pants you will see similar pants worn with cute flats. Talbot's isn't on top of trends but can be relied on for classic style.
This is the real world. Most of us can't be tottering around getting things done in heels. ------ Barb
