Date: 2/10/13 3:09 PM I'm headed to Vegas the 2nd week of March for the MWC (Mountain West Conference) basketball tournament, and since I'm not a huge basketball fanatic, and this may be my last trip to Vegas for a while, I'm looking for something to calm the savage sewing-fanatic that exists in me.
So those of you in the Vegas area, can you recommend some fabric shops etc. I'm willing to drive out a little ways if need be. (I figured that if my husband can follow the bouncing basketball, then I can follow the "zig-zagging" sewing machine - )
I did see a previous post about Heddy's in Henderson. I also saw mention of a Fabric Boutique. Are there any others within say within an hours drive?
Happy Sewing everyone. . . ------ So many machines, even more fabric, and way too little time! |

Date: 2/10/13 6:46 PM I don't know if there is a Heddy's in Henderson, but there is one at the other end of Las Vegas. If you are going to be in the Henderson area, there is a Joann Fabrics and a Hobby Lobby near the Sunset Station/Galleria Mall area. There is also a Wal-mart near there too, that had fabric this time last year. We stay at the Sunset when we go out. There is a small quilt shop in Boulder.
Hopefully some of the local folks will chime in. |

Date: 2/10/13 6:55 PM Heddy's is in Las Vegas on Charleston Blvd. between Decatur Blvd. and Jones. It is open between 10 AM and 5 PM M-F and on Saturday it is open until 4, I believe. It is always closed on Sunday. Heidi, the daughter of Heddy runs this independent fabric store. It has lots of glitzy fabrics for making costumes for the entertainers on the Strip as well as fashion fabrics. It does not contain much in the way of quilt fabric. The prices are higher than Walmart and a little higher than Joann's, Hancock's and Hobby Lobby but the quality is much better. It does not carry patterns but has a few pattern catalogues to look at. There are always sales going on. It also has lots of trims, buttons, interfacings, and notions that you don't see in our other stores. You can get personalized and expert help but you may have to wait. The staff is small but helpful. I live in LV and have been going to Heddy's for years.
You can PM if you want more details.

I hope to use up lots of stash in 2012.

Date: 2/11/13 10:50 AM I tried contacting Heddys quite a few times before my trip to Vegas in 2010 and never got a response. Prehaps they were in transition or something.
Vegas has lots of glitter but not a lot behind it- especially for fabric shopping.
You may find it more inspirational to schedule snoop hunts for design ideas at the high end hotel boutiques. Many are subway connected now. ------ re-living my youth through sewing... |

Date: 2/11/13 2:29 PM Heddy's is pretty low tech. They don't seem to ever advertise locally. I am not even sure that they have a website.
Sew Little Time is a nice fabric shop on the west side of town although the fabric selection is limited compared to others. The owner, Amelia is very sweet and helpful.
Quiltique in Henderson is our largest quilt fabric store. It has gorgeous fabrics with prices to match. It is located on Stephanie near the Galleria Mall. It might also be closed on Sunday. Its hours are 10-5 or 6 PM.
Hancock's Fabric at Silverado Blvd. and Maryland Pkwy is near the Strip. It is part of the Hancock's Fabric chain. It is open 7 days per week usually until 8 PM.
Have fun. You are coming here at a good time of year weatherwise although it might be windy.
