I'm putting a fairly large (8x8) embroidered applique on some stretchy twill and am wondering if anyone has some tips on hooping and stabilizing. The good news is this is not for a garment so the fabric will not be required to stretch. I chose for the color and texture.

Here's my thinking:
-don't hoop
-Stitch N Wash fusible
-top with heat n gone or water soluble

Your thoughts?

You need cutaway stabilizer on any fabric that stretches.

The item is not a garment and will not be stretching.

However, the tear away may not stand up to a lot of stitching as each stitch will perforate the tear away.

I used a water stick cut away and it worked beautifully. This was my first experience with the water stick and it was...interesting. The cutaway helped keep the stitches uniform, I think, which was necessary because of the amount of stretch in the twill. I did use the Janome Blue Tipped needle, also. I'll post a pic later today.
Thanks so much for the feedback!

I did this on 2-way denim/lycra stretch;

I just hooped it, with a layer of stabilizer beneath the fabric.

Thank you so much! This is the center square of the diaper changing pad in Simplicity 2165. I made her the nursing cover using one of Robert Kaufman's vintage baby cottons. Too cute!
