I have been looking at a new machine and have gone to some stores. Made a few phone calls, said I'd cal back. Never left a name or number. They are now calling me back. Suddenly, I don't want a new machine. I find that "pushy".

Wow I have not had that happen to me and I tend to look at machines alot. I have actually had a few times that I was offended that the dealer never thought to call me and ask if we could do a deal.

Eww! I work nights and that would NOT be cool. I can't always shut off my phone b/c I have kids.

I have the problem that I go to look at machines, ask a few questions, and either get mostly ignored or "shall I wrap it up for you?" Sheesh, they wonder why folks buy online. I have one really super Bernina dealer, but that's the only brand they sell. I'm leaning toward a Baby Lock Diana serger or the Singer equivalent.

It's not like I don't ever buy, either....LOL

You're damned if you do, damned if you don't. Successful sales is when you provide that extra service to someone to clinch the sale. I think calling you back with information about a sewing machine is okay if they do it once as a follow-up. Multiple times would piss me off.

Hi MastiffMomma,

Are you on the Federal or State Do Not Call list(s)? If so, even though you called them, they are not allowed to call you. Your inquiry call to them does not constitute an "ongoing business relationship" and they can be heavily fined by the FCC should you file an online complaint.

If you had requested a call back for more information, that would be a different matter. The fact they are calling you so they can make a sale, rather than becuase they are trying to meet your needs (with information they may not have had at the time of your call), that is pushy. If you have the choice of other dealers, you may want to call the people who called you and tell them you do not like their sales practices and that you are going elsewhere as a result.

I have to chalk sewing machine dealers right up there with car salesmen. And this week I am chalking the sewing machine repairman right up there with the not so honest "I know I am the only game in town" mechanic.

I feel for you. I honestly wouldn't buy from anyone who called me without me willingly giving them my number. Even if I was going to buy that model I would be sure they didn't get the commission on it and I would let them know why. Just because they have caller ID does not give them the right to bother you at home.
