I've had Sofia for about a week. Never touched or dreamed of embroidery before a week and a half ago. I bought Sofia for the sm part, and have monogrammed everything in the house :)
The dealer sent me Designer's Gallery Monogram Works and a USB drive of designs. I want to view the designs from the USB on the computer. Do I use the DG for that or is ther another disk I need? Oh my, I hope I didn't loose it already :-/.
My dealer is out of town until Wednesday.

If DG Monogram Works is all you got, then it is a stand alone and one that does works off a basic DG product.
An inexpensive viewing program that you can purchase for around $40 and download is Embrilliance Thumbnailer.
Embrilliance software products where designed by the same person (Brian Bailie) as Designer's Gallery software.
This vendor sells the software CD. There may be others that offer the software as a download.
I have a BL Ellegante and DG Works and Studio (catalog for viewing the designs) came with it as a promotion. I also use PE Design. When Thumbnailer became available I bought it and it is super easy to use.
You can continue to use the USB, or copy it to the hard drive. Either way, the software needs to be able to access the files.
When you plug the USB into the computer, you will be prompted that a new or removable drive is available. This is what you will open in Thumbnailer to view the design files.
I bought several USB stick drives from electronics stores/office supply stores/Walmart for a backup of the design files I have on the computer's hard drive. Just watch how much they hold as the EM cannot load a really large number of files.
The manual for your EM may state the max capacity for USB stick/drives.

I too have the Thumbnailer program and it's important to note, unless I'm really missing something, that what it does is to allow you to see your embroidery designs as thumbnails, not full size pictures so to speak. You install it and then it just works, you don't need to open the program to see the designs, it runs automatically in the background when using other programs/software.
For instance if you want to know what files are on your USB you plug in the USB to the computer and the Auto Play box comes up asking what you'd like to do, I always pick Open Folder to View Files, and voila if Thumbnailer is installed you will get an actual little picture of the embroidery design(s) on the drive, as well as it's name, without thumbnailer you don't get the pic of the design you get a generic thumbnail from windows and the files name. You can't actually open the embroidery file, you just get to see what it is, any text and other files (.txt, .jpg, .doc, etc) that the computer recognizes open as normal. Computers don't open embroidery files without additional software.
There are a couple other programs out there that do the same thing but other than Iconizer I can't think of their names, there may even be a free one.
Hope I helped

Tammy is right, thumbnailor lets you view small images of your designs. If you have a Mac, then Stitch Buddy is great for veiwing files. It's full featured to view up to 200% and as PDF and has an Editor. I have an Ellisimo and gave DG away to my daughter. It was a Windows program but I never figured out what it did really. All I needed was Stitch Buddy and a USB. But it only works on Macs.

You can open your designs on the usb with Monogram Works. If you just open the USB drive on your computer, you will not be able to view embroidery designs. The computer does not recognize them as pictures, but little bits of data. A good companion software to Monogram Works would be Studio III, which allows you to view all the designs and catalog them. If you can find Studio Plus, it is the previous version of Studio and it would be much less expensive..and does a lot of the same things.

Google "Wilcom Truesizer Free download" and get the free Truesizer software. You can view designs that are on your stick, hard drive or wherever.
For the Sofia, you should try to find the smallest usb stick possible. Its little brain just can't think too much. Don't put a bunch of designs on one stick. Keep them on your computer and just use the stick to bring them to the computer.
