I'm looking for a skirt pattern that would be the worn with a RTW blazer/suit jacket. I am an intermediate sewer and look forward to any help.

Thank you

I personally like a 6/8 gore style for my petite pear self.
For example, Simplicity 2451 or Burda 8973.

You could also look at Sewaholic Patterns that are specifically designed for pears, though her current skirt offerings are possibly more casual than you are after.

Edited, because apparently I can't spell

A gored skirt, or a skirt with pleats (not beginning at the waist-- too bulky), or nearly any a-line as long as it is more fitted through the waist and high hip. I have some work skirts that are slightly a line with pleats around the hemline that look good with a blazer.
I don't find straight or pencil skirts flattering-- they just seem to draw attention to my pearness.

To wear with a blazer for a professional look at work, I'd go with the standard straight or pencil skirt. The blazer will cover any waistline "problem areas" and the look is pure professional. I have railed in the past on my blog about the endless advice to pears that we wear only A lines, which I think is just wrong.

Another alternative that is less formal but still flattering and professional is a trumpet skirt, such asSimplicity 5914. Muslin the skirt first; it is *not* proportioned for petites--it feels like it's drafted for someone 5'6" or taller.

I would agree with Nicegirl. Almost all of us look good in classic straight skirt. McCalls 3830 made the Best of 2012 list 3830. I have made it several times. It is very easy to fit and sews up quickly.

It depends on where your weight is. If you are full in the lower hip or upper thigh, then an A line skirt will suit you better. If, like me, you have your weight just below the waist and are straight below that, then a pencil skirt will work.
My dd is a very slender hourglass with her hip weight at her upper thigh. She can wear a pencil skirt if it skims over her body. It depends on how pear shaped you are.

I like skirts cut on the bias with a flat waist A line shape.

Yes, exactly. My pearness is fullest in the lower hip/thigh region so when I fit a straight skirt it ends up a line anyway to fit over my thighs. And when I try on RTW straight skirts I must go up a size and then they are too large at the waist. I think if your pearness is higher, the straight skirt or pencil skirt will work just fine.
