I'm fairly new to the sewing machine world (I've mainly done hand sewing projects and repairs). I'm currently taking an apparel construction class and while I wish I could afford a Bernina like the one we use in class I need a more affordable option at home since I would like to be able to practice outside of class.
So far with research I've narrowed my list down to these:
- Brother CS6000i
- JUKI HZL-35Z
- Janome 2212
- Janome Magnolia 7318
Any opinions on those machines? Or any other recommendations are welcome! I'm looking for a machine that is $250 or under.

The only one on your list which I know a llittle about is the Janome Magnolia 7318. I have never sewn on it or even tested it, but when I was looking for a beginner machine reasonably priced for my granddaughter I asked at my dealer (who sells Bernina, Brother, and Janome) and the 7318 was the hands down suggestion from an experienced salesperson. She was willing to price it the same as the best deal I could find online at the time (2 years ago). It came with free lessons. (which you don't get online)
I did not purchase it because DIL did not want a sm in her house.
