Using a Zipper foot to put binding on quilt?
HDWen   Advanced Beginner AZ USA Member since 12/26/11 Posts: 1402	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 2/16/13 9:04 AM Ok so maybe I am blurring the line between quilting and sewing BUT I have the front of the binding on this enormous quilt, pinned the back and sometimes, when I SID the front, it misses catching the back -- Sew I was thinking -- Why couldn't you use a Zipper foot? It is made for getting really close and maybe I wouldn't miss parts of the back binding? Any thoughts from you great Quilters? I always use a walking foot so the layers feed evenly, but the Quilt Police won't come to your house if you use a zipper foot. Rules are broken every day in the quilt world. Let us know how it goes.

Date: 2/16/13 11:39 AM It is not unusual for the top stitching to miss the back of the binding on a quilt. That is probably why many hand sew this portion of the quilting process. I don't think a zipper foot has enough surface to do this technique. You may want to try a blind hem foot that has an adjustable "rudder" that could be positioned to hug the edge binding. What about a machine blanket or buttonhole stitch? Date: 2/16/13 11:48 AM The secret is to make the binding fold about 1/4" more on the back than on the front- that way you don't miss it.
