I need to take the cover, case, housing - whatever you call it, off my pfaff 7550 to clean it. I've had it about 20 years I think, and over time have had thread break in the tension area. Also the presser foot doesn't go down completely, though I can push it down by hand. I bought a service manual, has great diagram of the presser foot, but no instructions about how to get the case off the machine!

There's instructions on taking the lid off a 7570 in this artisan's square thread (about half way down the page). It may apply to your machine also.

I probably do know why the pressure foot won't go up and down, or just barely with great effort, particular if the machine gets cold and if you really have never done anything to it, in all those years at all. I think it's because your original grease on there, and also on lots connected to it, is over 20 years old now, and has now all sort of turned into crumbly and just very sticky, white almost cement at this point.
