Wondering if Pfaff and Elna Presser Feet are interchangable??

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read my post!! I'm sure that someone here should be able to answer my question...I just bought a new Pfaff Ambition 1.0 last week. I was wondering if I could use the presser feet from my Elna Machine without any damage to the Pfaff. My Elna feet are snap-ons, and so is the pfaff. I've also got ALOT of different presser feet from "brother brand" sewing machines, will they work??

I've never tried to use any other presser feet on any of my machines, only the ones they came with.

I accidentally broke my "fancy stitch foot w/ IDT" It Snapped in half! Ughhhhhh!! I know why, the thread got tangled in that little slit on the spool/causing tension to be pulled, the needle went into the plastic part of the presser foot and snapped it in half.. I almost cried...(i know, i know, but at this point, i probably only had 2 hours of sewing on the new machine)

I'm having a terrible time trying to find this specific foot online (part no. 820774096 series K feet), and was wondering if I really even needed it. Or could I use the Elna feet instead.

again, Thanks so much for reading and Thank you again if you decide to post a reply!!

Sewing Machine Feet

This is a pinned topic and would be a good place for this post! In the meantime, try - make sure you don't force anything and that you make sure the feet fit properly on the feed dogs and the needle has the same clearance on the needle hole.

That said - if you buy a machine - there had to be a reason. One of the reasons is the efficacy of the feet made for that machine. Why not treat yourself to the proper feet? Over time the investment pays off.

I have an Elna 740 and PfaffQE4 - the feet are not interchangeable. The only way I can use the regular Elna feet on the Pfaff is to use a low shank ankle adapter. It is really not worth it to me. The dual feed from the Elna absolutely cannot be usedon the Pfaff as the IDT is very different.

No, the Pfaff shank is wider to accomadate the feet with the IDT on the back of the machine. The feet are made to work with the built in stitches of your machine :blindhem, overedge have metal guides inside the openning of the foot, using another brand can result in needle breaking. Putting a snap on shank from another brand with a release button/lever can damage your IDT. Even in the disengaged position it moves as machine sews. Compared to the cost of machine it's not saving a huge amount getting the proper feet verses the expense of a repair.
