Silk bias binding/ribbon Where to purchase silk bias ribbon
sewnotwork Advanced Beginner CO USA Member since 7/19/11 Posts: 58	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 2/18/13 1:10 PM I've got a design in mind for a sheer dress that is sleeveless and would like to bind the armholes with silk bias ribbon because I do not have enough to self fabric. The fabric is piņa fabric out of pineapple plant fibers and has similar feel as organza. So does this seem like a good idea or a disaster waiting to happen? Or should I just find some silk organza and make bias tape? I need the silk bias tape to be an ecru color/off-white cream. Anyone have any experience with an on line vendor to recommend? Or silk organza? Thanks.

I just bought some in just the color you want--45" wide at $5.49 a yd. They also carry a wider width, 54", I think. Rose

I got some once and found that it had very nice, soft hand--very similar to what I get when I throw my own silks in the washer and dryer.

It is called bias "ribbon" but really it's just bias strips. You can make this yourself out of suitable silk fabric if you already have one in stash. This is a good tutorial on continuous loop bias tape. I ended up ordering some silk organza to make bias tape out of it since it will probably be closest in texture to the material I already have. I wondered if the bias ribbon would be too shiny. Also there didn't seem to be a matching ecru color that I could order. I'm not sure how having a sheer bias binding will look.
