Date: 2/19/13 12:16 PM I've got Jalie 2804 and am thinking of making view 'A' with the ruched side seams in front.
The pattern has a second 'lining' layer for the lower half of the bodice. That underlayer is shorter, so it apparently is for stabilizing the ruching, since view 'B' does not have that.
My question --- Can view 'A' be made without that second layer, and instead put some elastic in the side seams to stabilize the ruching? It gets awfully hot and humid here in summers, and two layers of any fabric is not fun. |

Date: 2/20/13 2:46 AM I say yes. I've made that pattern a few times and it turns out lovely and you are right about the purpose of the second layer. It also gives you a very nice inside of the garment with no internal gathering showing. However if you are not worried about that go ahead with the one layer.
I would not wear knits in humid weather though as I find them very hot. Woven cotton or linen is much cooler. ------

Date: 2/20/13 3:10 AM I lie in a cooler climate but apart from that i feel that a layer with gathers is much nicer when there is a straight layer underneath.I have asked myself the question why I think so ank have the feeling that it is perhaps an issue of size
