 1 member likes this. I have Amazon Prime. So it's great (IMO) to watch entire seasons of older TV shows - no commercials - and great to watch 2,3,4, (more?) episodes in a row - pausing only to take a pee break! lol
I'd heard that Prison Break was a good show back in 2005 or 2006 or so...but never watched a single episode... so what the hey... so last week, I thought I'd see if the first episode grabbed me.
Wow. Talk about a cool story line (IMO) and hunky men. There's way more to it than I would have imagined.
I'm in the beginnings of Season 2.
Anybody else ever get wrapped up in this one? ------

Date: 2/22/13 5:28 PM I have not but thanks for the recommendation. I recently completed watching House of Cards on Netflix with Kevin Spacey and it was absolutely fantastic. I want to watch the British version but not so close in time.. So, I started watching The West Wing (never watched it when it was on regular tv). I had heard people rave about it. It is okay-just not edge of your seat compelling drama. I think that the writing and production on tv shows have improved so much it kind of feels formulaic. For the type of tv viewing I am using it for (while I am cutting fabric, doing embroidery etc.) it is just fine. Some shows I am on the verge of giving up-- The Walking Dead and Nashville- too many breaks in the season-- ABC seems to skip every other week on Nashville and that is annoying, I will find something else to do and just wait for it to land on Netflix or Hulu.
One made for tv movie I viewed today was Little Women circa 1978. It featured Susan Dey as Jo, Meredith Baxter Birney as Meg and Eve Plumb as Jan (I forget who was Amy) Greer Garson as Aunt March, Robert Young as Grandpa Young and William Shatner as the German professor. It heeded close to the actual story. It's on Hulu and made me cry in all the parts the book did. They did not do too badly in the costume dept -- all costumes designed by Edith Head. |

2 members like this. I love Downton Abbey, but don't think I'd like Prison Break. London Hospital (available on Prime) and Bletchley Circle are really good. |

1 member likes this. I loved Prison Break! I'm glad it at least got a sendoff season though it was hurried and short. I wish it had as many fans then as I hear of now who just discovered it on Netflix. Perhaps as much thought could've gone into subsequent seasons as it did for the first. ------

Since we currently have a only a digital antenna with a handful of local stations we have been surviving on Wallender, MCI Banks, and some of the P.D. James mysteries and renting a LOT of movies and supplement with some of the older program series. Luckily we can catch up on a few of the HBO and Showtime series that we used to regularly watch when we visit our son!
...and Ripstitcher, I agree that it's wonderful to watch an entire season of any series w/o it's commercials. We usually cannot sit through any shows that have commercials unless we tape them first and can fast-forward - it's too painful! LOL

Hmm... the trailer on YouTube looks good (here). I'm not sure. Michael Gambon and modern-day spy stuff are not my favorites, but it does look very promising.------

Why is it the Brits can make better series--historical, spies, detectives than the US now? Do their older producers/writers have more clout than the Hollywood crowd who can only write drivel?
In Canada do you get more British productions than US? We are running out of choices after using up PBS and Netflix!
So...fell asleep during Page 8, needs a little more action and a lot less talking. I'm glad the Midwives are returning--chick flick fare that H. couldn't stomach, an alternative to testosterone violence!
