Date: 2/25/13 6:00 PM So...I am waiting for the Juki 634DE that I bought on E-bay to arrive. I have used industrial sergers a couple of times, so I feel pretty confident about sewing the basic 4-thread overlock, but have no idea how to use any of the other stitches (I can't wait to try making some lettuce edges)!
Allbrands sells an instructional DVD from Juki. It's pretty pricey at $50. I think most folks probably receive it when they buy their machine. If you've seen the DVD, can you comment on how worthwhile it is?

Date: 2/25/13 8:16 PM I have that serger and it is pretty basic, I can't see buying a cd unless you get a lot of specialty feet, etc. with it. The manual is basic but covers what you need to know and there are many basic serger books that can also be of help. Wait till you get it and see how it goes. The manual does show the settings for a rolled hem and depending on fabric you will still have to play with the tensions. If it was me I would wait  |

Another thing you can do is to "Google" search Bernina serger guide books, they are in pdf and the serger won't be the same but it will show basic serger techniques that will still work with any serger. Follow along with their guide book and make up the samples to keep as reference. It will show how to do corners, rolled hems, needle positions, tensions, pretty much all the basic stuff, it is the techniques!. One guide book example.
All of the techniques shown in the pdf are basic for what you can do with the Juki. You just have dials for tensions but otherwise you can achieve all stitches the shown
