I just got my new 600 in the mail and have done a bit of testing on it. The thread cutter seems to make a lot of noise. It sounds quite different from my Janome 6600. I just can't tell if this is normal or not, seems kind of clunky.

Anyone want to describe what their 600 sounds like?

Thank you

You can hear the thread cutter in this YouTube video at 3:55 minutes into the comparison.

The thread cutter on my Janome 6500 sounds a lot louder than that!

Sorry--this is a bit off topic, but I'm curious why you got the Juki. I, too have a 6600 and just can't seem to get excited about it. I don't love it, and I've been looking at other machines. Was this the case for you?

I hope your new 600 is OK!

Thank you, youtube was a brilliant thought.

I guess that is the kind of noise it makes. I'm relived to know mine is not a dud.

I have the Juki F600 now and had a Viking Sapphire 870Q that had an auto-cutter. Both seem to be the same volume as far as noise made by the cutter.

I have only had my Janome 6600 for a few months, I purchased it used. I like it but I have one of the thread/needle Diva’s it's so fussy and I have spent hours running test strips on scraps to get it happy with tension for fabrics. Since it doesn't have a free arm I had planned on getting a backup machine with one(selling/donating off my old cheep machines).

I picked up a Janome Magnolia used and while I was waiting for it to come I discovered that the 6600 balks at heavy seams. This is something that I don’t think a machine with a $2500. MSRP should do. Finding out that added “can sew heavy thing without having a fit” to the must have for the backup machine. The Magnolia balks at seams as well so it is in the for sale pile. I picked up a Elna 2005, it does better but not as well on thick seams as I would like, I’ll give it another run but I think it will be sold as well.
So the search continued, in the meantime I discovered things I liked on the 6600 I did not want to give up in the second machine but I did not want to put out $3,000+ for a machine that will get part time use. The things I started to like were auto thread cutter, needle up/down, knee lift, needle drop position and extension table. Reading reviews/blogs led me to Bernina’s or the Juki Exceeds line. Of course the $ of Bernina’s put it out, don’t get me wrong I would love an 820 and if I won the lottery tomorrow I would own one next week but until then ;). I started researching the 300, the little sister of the 400 and 600. Everything pointed to it being a serious workhorse that will sew through anything with no problem or fussing. My Juki dealer is about 4 hours round trip so I started to look online I was ready to purchase the 300 for $600 when I found a 600 for $750(floor/quilt show open box) so I went for it. The only problem so far is it arrived without its table and a few bobbins and small spool holder. I don’t care about the small things but I want my table. I hope the seller comes through but so far they have been a bit of a PIA. They sent me a email after I paid asking me to call and offering me a brand new one for $100 more, the one I have comes with its full warranty so why pay more. Then a week later I emailed asking when they would ship and they sent an obnoxious reply, with the shipping info, they had shipped but did not tell me or update the listing to show that it was shipped. How could I know? I hope getting the table goes without a hitch but I suspect it will be a fight.

It stitched through 7 layers of denim with no problems, slight move to one side on the first stitch but all the stitches were the same length and I did not have to try to force it. Love it!

I don't have the F600, but do own the Juki TL2010Q. The thread cutter makes a very loud "thunk" when it cuts which is a much heavier sound than the thread cutter on my Bernina 830LE. I don't mind the cutting sound on the Juki at all. It sounds like it means business.
