Date: 2/27/13 10:01 AM I want to make the pillow case for my grandaughters birthday party sleepover. I want to machie applique Hello Kitty and some flowers and their names on the Pillowcase something like this
I have a brother PE770. I do not have any software yet for editing. I know I can load the Hello Kitty design and complete and also the flowers, but how can I do the name? Do I have to do one letter at a time, and how do you align?

Date: 2/27/13 3:10 PM I could, but then I would have to cut the name out and then satin stitch around each. If I purchase a embroidery applique design, the machine does it all and you just cut around with applique sissors. |

Date: 2/27/13 4:04 PM On the 750 you could chose I think from 2 alphabets on screen, I' m not 100% but pretty sure you could select more than one letter from the on board alphabet. If you use a design card you probably have to use whatever came with the machine pe lite or similar the you can select multiple letters from the card.
Mine was an older model but I think that was how it went when I had that machine, |

I have done embroidery machine applique.
And if that is what you want, then you will have to find applique fonts, download and stitch.
Cutting out your own appliques and then sewing them would be less expensive.
If you enlarge the picture of the pillowcase you can see the letters are zigzag stitched to the pillowcase and are not machine embroidered applique.

Date: 2/28/13 5:49 AM Does your machine embroider? I am guessing it does since you said you are doing embroidery applique.
If it embroiders then you find and buy or download a font of letters. Then you use an editing software program (not an organizer or digitizer program) to bring in each letter and arranges them into her name.
Afterr that, you save and then transfer it to your machine.
Do you have an editing program? Embrilliance is a basic one and comes with a monogram feature. You can import your applique embroidery, add the lettering, save it as one file and then open it with Embrilliance and watch a video of it stitching out the entire design! Its called a Stitch Out feature.
I love it with embroidery applique because I can watch each step and know where I will be cutting and placing my fabric pieces. ------ re-living my youth through sewing... |

Date: 2/28/13 5:55 AM If you have never used an editing software program it will take you a few days to learn it and get the hang of how to import and arrange it in your computer screen.
If you have a Mac then Stitch Buddy is super easy to learn, its a simple program. If you have a Windows computer then I would give Embrilliance a try. It is about mid range in price and you can add other things like font types over time. Or just buy fonts from other companies.
I joined 8claws&apaw for a few months and built up my font collection but I see they dont offer it anymore- just single purchases.
They do have tutorials on how to make words and names from font letters:

Date: 2/28/13 6:08 AM Now this is fascinating. I just read the tuturial from them. If you DON'T have an editing software program you can still make words using these steps:
Mark your fabric with chalk on where you want each letter to stitch out, using the measurements of each letter as your guideline.
Once you have your fabric marked with where you want each letter to stitch, you will hoop your fabric for your first letter
Place your hoop on your machine and move your needle to the point you want to stitch your letter.
Stitch out the first letter, take your hoop off of your machine and then rehoop your fabric to stitch out the next letter
You will continue this process until you are finished stitching all letters for the name/word.
Who would have thought???
I am thinking if you can move your needles start position with each new letter there is no need to recenter and rehoop for every letter. -- Edited on 2/28/13 6:12 AM -- ------ re-living my youth through sewing... |

Date: 2/28/13 6:49 AM Thank you so much. I will look into Embrilliance software. I have a Brother PE770 Embroidery machine, but hoping to upgrade to Babylock someday. I do not have any type of software to edit or bring designs into and save. I have only strictly embroidery one at a time, and was hoping I could find another way. Though I am limited because I only have a 5X7 frame space. |
