Date: 2/27/13 2:00 PM Hi Fellow Bernina Lovers,
My machines will be leaving for Calgary on March 24. The buttonholes have not been right on my 930 in a couple of years. The technician here was unable to fix it. So, I want to take it to a good tech in Alberta, preferably Calgary.
Are there any techs who know how to fix the older machines properly there and won't say it's not worth fixing OR try to get me to buy a new machine? I already have a 440QE and a 730E. But I want my 930 to be in tip top shape again. It will likely go to my new home in Central America with me.
Thanks in advance for your help. |

Date: 2/27/13 10:42 PM It is my understanding that you will have to use the services of a shop that sells Berninas. All the independent techs have been cut off from parts supplies, because the company is much more interested in selling NEW machines than fixing OLD ones. Currently, the Calgary shops selling Beaners are My Sewing Room, and Sewing Sensation.

Thanks for your reply. do you know if this practice all over North America, or only in Canada? I will check out the places you've listed when we arrive there. |

Date: 2/28/13 4:31 PM Sorry, I don't know. I only have one Bernina that I've had for less than 2 yrs, and since it is a second-hand 40yr old, I'm sure I'll have to service it myself should it ever need it. I know all my Bernina-owning friends are a tad cheesed off that the repair guy they had been using for 20 yrs or so got cut off last year because he won't work for a dealership.

Date: 3/1/13 0:14 AM Not in Alberta,in B.C.,there used to be a very good with old Berninas certified Bernina specialist at Wineberry Fabrics in Surrey,B.C. You may want to contact them and ask if Bernie,(that's his real name),still comes in on Fridays, maybe he has retired.

Date: 3/1/13 0:32 AM Bernie is the tech my Bernina dealer uses, just saw him last week. He's not retired. ------ I heart Panzy, Pfaff Creative Performance, the sewing machine love of my life! And Rupert (Pfaff 2023), Baby (BL Enlighten), Victor (BLCS), Ash (Bernina 350SE), Pal (Bernina 530), Kee (Bernina 750) and the Featherteen Flock!
Most of all, I heart Woo (HimmyCat). Until we meet again, my beautiful little boy. I love you. |

Date: 3/1/13 0:55 AM This is the same for all of Bernina in North America (so both US & Canada). Don't know about other parts of the world. Only Bernina dealers can now get Bernina parts. Has been that way for Pfaff for several years and is also the same for BabyLock. It's pretty much the direction that the machine industry industry is going. The only way a non-dealer can get parts is if they can buy them (at full retail pricing) from an authorized dealer. |

Date: 3/2/13 5:51 AM Well, we might have to make a trip to Surrey, B.C. if the techs at the stores in Calgary don't know what they are doing regarding the older Berninas. That wasn't in the plan, but, it might be a nice break.
Thanks for all your replies. |
