Date: 2/27/13 6:37 PM I'm working on Butterick 5687 View E(slacks). I have been tweaking and piddling on this pattern for months now and have finally figured out that it looks better if I eliminate the dart closest to the center back. I don't need the extra room in the waist, so I have to figure out a way to redistribute this dart(1 and a fourth inch for each dart=2 1/2 inches to take up).
It works well to take some in off the center back, but didn't work well when I took a bit more off the side seams. I'm now looking at making the remaining, single, back darts "deeper".
Does this sound right? Is there another way to do this? I've only elimated a dart when I needed the extra waist room...this is a different kettle of fish for me |

Date: 2/27/13 7:14 PM You could take off 1/4" from the side seam, 1/4" from the CB , 1/4" deeper dart which are all small amounts, so each shouldn't do too much "damage", then ease in the remaining 1/2". Since it would be across the entire back, it shouldn't look too much like wrinkles. Either that or take a slightly deeper dart, let's say 1/2" and ease in the remaining 3/4' into the band. ------ I have not yet begun to procrastinate |

Date: 2/28/13 8:41 AM Thanks for the suggestions Butterfly. Right after elminating the dart, I got a wild hair to just grab it all out of the back center seam. Surprisingly, it fit pretty good. I just had this one area that didn't work. That's when it dawned on me, taking it all out of one area wasn't going to help. I'm going to keep all the work in the back. When I tried to take away from the side seams, things went a bit wonky. Thanks again...at least I know I'm on the right track |

Date: 2/28/13 4:57 PM Leave and extra inch to ease into the waist band. That's only 1/4 inch per section so its easy to do. |

Date: 3/1/13 9:03 AM Thanks Sewsally. That's pretty much what I did. So far, good results. I'm cutting out another muslin today. Hoping this will be the last and I have finally achieved a pair of TNT slacks. |
