Would it be weird if I made a dress from this?

Any pattern suggestions? I'm thinking a simple shift dress to showcase the fabric, plus it's slightly heavy. Also I can't decide if a waistline seam is a good or bad idea?

What about a Shawl, or something smaller than a full sized dress in case the weight becomes an issue? A sweater/light weight coat? Wish I could feel this fabric ------ I have great enthusium for sewing, but lack talent to be great. 2013

Date: 2/28/13 12:29 PM If it's heavy, I'd stay away from a waist seam (and reinforce the shoulders). Same with any yoke (especially if the bodice is gathered under it). I think it would make a really cute dress. A simple sheath or A-line. Something where the waist is defined by side seams or a belt - View A from S2059, NL 6803 or a shirt dress (if it doesn't have princess seams). But princess seams are better than a waist seam. Just be careful w/ the pattern placement - don't want it to look like the birds are, um, nursing.

I guess it's technically not "heavy" but after working with a lot of sari silk, everything seems heavy. It would probably be classified as a mid-weight twill
