I am very slowly looking into sewing machine upgrades. I love my Babylock quilters choice but want to upgrade with more features. Brother sewing machines almost look like the Babylock, so I am wondering what is the difference.

Brother VQ3000 or Babylock Crescendo or Symphony. Choices, choices. Do I get more for my money with Brother? Do the BL feet (I have many) fit the Brother machines?

I know I need to invest the time to visit dealers, but that is not easy since we have fewer and fewer dealers around. So these are just kick start opinions

Brother makes the Babylock computerized sewing and embroidery machines. The feet are the same between both. Deferences between embroidery Brother has licencing with Disney and Babylock has licencing with Nancy Zieman (she has other financial ties to Tacony, the company who owns Babylock and Amazing Designs). Dealer support is very important for happy ownership and prices vary on promotions.

I have a Babylock Symphony, and the Babylock dealer said they are different machines than Brother. I previously owned a Brother 4000D embroidery/sewing machine and the Brother dealer said they are different machines than Babylock. They look like the same machine, but I do like my Syphony machine better. I traded in my brother for the babylock

They are the same machine. The difference is going to be features and housing design. As noted above, Brother has Disney designs for embroidery. Brother also has My Custom Stitch™, allowing you to create your own designs in 7mm stitches. They have a library of them on the website, too, that you can program onto your machine. BabyLock may have a few more stitches on their machines to make up for this. That's why I chose the Brother QC-1000 over the BabyLock Espire(now Symphony) a few years ago, though I never got around to actually making my own stitches.

Overall, both brands are excellent deals for the money. I think it comes down to dealer support and whether you want to look at gold or blue on your machine.

Babylock and Brother are produced in the same factory to different standards of quality. Yes, they look the same on the outside, but quality control is different. It is like the old Kenmores being made by Janome. Made in the same factory but to different standards. Please people, quit saying they are the same machines, they are not.

I bought a Brother machine cause the dealer said it was the exact same machine as the Babylock I wanted, but much cheaper.

When I got it, the stitches I dearly wanted were not on the Brother. Babylock has 8 stitches on this particular machine that Brother didn't have & ironically I wanted the Babylock just for those stitches.
So NO they aren't the same. Live & learn.

Thanks. I will go with my gut on staying with Babylock. I started thinking about Brother because one of my Craftsy instructors had one in her videos. The BL dealer is a little closer to me also.

I am glad to see others supporting my theory the two machines are different. I have the Sumphony and Brother 780D. And they do not seem like the same machines at all. My Brother is very finicky, I just got it back from my dealer for the second time in 3 months last weekend. The machine seems to be working better now. ie it now works.....
My Babylock just feels and sounds like a much higher quality machine.

HI, The Babylock machines that look like the Brother "sister" machines are made by Brother. The quality is the same on the inside. As has been mentioned before, Brother has Disney Designs and Babylock has Nancy Zieman designs. There are also some differences in what the Babylock offers as far as the decorative stitches in the sewing part of the machine. I have a friend who still believes that Babylock internal parts are made better and she won't believe me when I tell her that the parts are made with the same quality. Last year I even spoke to the top guy in the Babylock sewing machine department of Tacony and he said to buy the dealer since the machines are of the same quality. About 4 years ago, I called the sales' rep at the Tacony offices and she told me the same thing. My friend still won't believe me even when I that I spoke to these people who work for the Tacony Corporation.
