I bought my Pfaff 1472 back in 1991. About six months ago I took it in for some repair work and it worked great until just recently. The tension is all messed up. I'm kind of thinking with the age of this machine that I hate to put more money in it. I'm wondering if it is going to start nickel and dimeing me to death! Thank God I have a cheapy Kenmore that works great that I can use for back up.

I have the 1471 which I bought in 1985. It has been a great machine and I used it for professional sewing. I replaced the motherboard once for $300 and various small odds and ends over the years. It still works great but a few years ago I had a chance to buy a 2058 and decided to keep my 1471 in reserve. I think they are great machines and if you can get an estimate for repairs you might think about keeping her alive if it is not an arm and a leg. Was the tension the reason you brought her in before? If so, the tech should stand behind the work.

You couldn't disconnect the needle from going up and down when winding a bobbin is the reason I had it in for repair before.

I have a 1475 that I love and have used so much you think it would be worn out. The bobbin indicator light has stopped working, but that is really the only problem I have had with it. I have a brand new pfaff and I still go back to my 1475 for making gowns as it is precise especially with starting and stopping. My new machine likes to take one stitch more after I stop. I say keep it going, it's definitely worth it.
