Subject: EDIT - Lower-end Babylocks (and Janome), Any experience? Date: 3/5/13 0:15 AM

EDIT I will leave my original post below, but it appears the model I was asking about isn't available in the U.S. which explains the lack of experience with this particular machine. I am currently debating between two somewhat lower-end sergers and will post more about this in a reply to this post below.

Hello darlings,

I'm new to the forums here but have been using this site for research for months, and purchased a Pfaff Creative Performance (which I should be getting by the end of the week, so excited!) mainly based on the reviews and opinions of people here.

My interests in sewing are pretty diverse but I've never really got hugely into garment sewing (besides some alterations and doggy apparel) until recently. I've been looking into getting a serger and lo-and-behold, one recently popped up online the other day.

It's a Babylock Pro-line 097, but there are no reviews on here for this machine as far as I can tell and I couldn't find a whole lot of information online. I was wondering if this would be a good machine to learn on for someone who has never touched a serger. It's $150, so I have no illusions that it will last me forever, but after purchasing the Pfaff I really can't afford to go out and spend $1500+ for a higher-end serger at the moment.

Any thoughts?

For clarification, the Babylock Pro-line 097 is an intro-level machine that is priced at about $350 new. I have the opportunity to get a used one for $150. There is also a Janome MyLock 134D that I could get for about $100 (another obscure model, apparently), that is essentially an older version of the 204D.

Does anyone have experience with the less expensive Babylocks and/or with Janome sergers? I'm not sure which one to go with until I can save some money up for a higher-end machine.
