Date: 3/5/13 8:28 AM A friend is recovering from open heart surgery and needs help designing a bra that supports and does not irritate the healing scar. We want to make one that has some kind of soft lining, gives support and comfort. ------ "This is the day that The Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it!"

Date: 3/5/13 9:13 AM Does anyone at the hospital or in cardiac rehab have recommendations? Women in a support group might also have some practical suggestions. Perhaps a really good bra shop or a place that specializes in bras for mastectomy patients would stock something appropriate. |

Date: 3/5/13 5:23 PM The first thing that came to mind, was this bra. Yeah, it's a nursing bra but it is so comfy and cute. It's lined with jersey and has a bit of give. ------ http://www.seamstressintraining.blogspot.com |

Date: 3/5/13 5:25 PM A while back, Playtex had a line of Cross Your Heart boxed bras. They were all super soft and minimal; it's worth seeing opif those are still around and would be low cut enough to not irritate...? ------ Call me Han.
I'll try anything once :) |

Date: 3/5/13 5:45 PM I think m/m has proposed an excellent idea. There have to be online support groups for women with that sternal incision. A google search using terms like "support group women open heart surgery" should offer excellent advice. |

Date: 3/5/13 9:12 PM I have had open heart surgery (twice, in my early thirties). I don't remember being unable to wear a bra after the first 2 weeks-and I wear underwires!
If your friend will be self-conscious, those new bras advertised on infomercials and such arecomfortable enough.
GOOD LUCK TO HER. |

Date: 3/6/13 10:14 AM After my lumpectomies, I used to wear what they call 'sleep bras'. They were made of soft jersey knit with front hook closures and had enough support for 'the girls'.
This is the one I have: Amoena brand |
