Date: 3/7/13 4:07 PM Hi folks! I am new. I have been comtemplating finding a nice forum to learn and discuss with others about sewing. I have been sewing for well most of my life. But, I have been coming across things regarding sewing that I have missed having a sounding board with others who are experience. And in my area, they are few and far between. People look at me like I am some nerd (which I am) for sewing as expertly as I do.
I just got a call from a gentleman that has requested I make a sweatsuit kind of garment for him, but is very large. As I contemplated this, the largest I have made any kinds of these garments (or any garment) is a 2XL (possibly a 3XL), and I pretty much just altered my pattern to acoomodate. It was easy enough as I already had a XL. BUT, a 6XL for a 5'11" size man.
I am debating whether to take this request and sew for this gentleman; But, it all depends if I can find a pattern for this size.
I am wondering if any of you know of a place (web or otherwise) that I can find a pattern for a person this size of a sweatsuit?
I hope someone can help me.

Date: 3/7/13 6:40 PM Welcome Becky! I won't be able to help with this particular issue, but I'll bet someone else can. There is a world of knowledge at Pattern Review! ------ http://bgballroom.wordpress.com to follow the progress on my next ballgown. |

You might also post your question under Plus Size Sewing, its the next forum heading below the Patterns and Notions heading.
It might be worth a look at Connie Crawford patterns, they are for women but might help you with a basic shape (a basic tshirt could be used as a sweatshirt pattern, maybe with a bit more ease added).

Date: 3/8/13 4:03 AM Have you thought about lekala? The patterns come as pdf downloadables and are very cheap. One of the free patterns for men is a raglan hoodie, there are also some paid patterns which could work. See Free patterns. The patterns are printed to fit basic measurements you give them and with a loose garment like a sweatshirt this should work well. Melissa at FehrTrade has a good tutorial about how to buy the patterns, and there are also lots of threads on this forum about lekala. I think here is now a US based version but it doesn't seem to have all the patterns available on the Russian site. Good luck!. |

Date: 3/8/13 7:32 AM Thanks. I will check out the other forums. I am excited to dig into this forum and check out what I have missed for some time.
It is wonderful to have like-minded folks and discuss such things with them. I have had to figure things out on my own for far to long.
I have school all day today, so I will check back later.
