I have found that slips are almost non existant in stores now, so that means I have to alter my slips I already have. The problem is, all my slips come from the days when we wore LONG dresses. I have such pretty lasy slips, I want to wear them with my knee length dress that I have now. Problem is.. how do I do this? Half slips are not too much a problem, it is the full lenght ones. Do I take up the bottom, which has a lot of lace, or do I cut the slip at waist lenght, and adjust it there? I need help

I am not sure what you mean. If it is floor length and you need knee length, you could almost make two slips-one out of the top half and cut it where you want it and just hem that; one out of the bottom half and add elastic for the waist? That would depend on how much fabric you had to work with. The other thing is that you could cut it off wherever you want it and then take the lace that you like off of the bottom and attach it on the bottom of the new hem.
edited to add: This is a sew along section. I don't think you wanted to create a sew along with this did you?

If you want to keep the lace, you can always sew it back on, it's easier than fiddling with the waist.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

How much too long? You could do a couple of rows of tucks, or cut and shorten in the middle of the skirt of the slip and then just to make it pretty put in a row of insertion lace.

Thank you so much for your answers to my "pettycoat problem".
I am sorry I put it in the wrong place... being new to all of this, it will take me a while to get my bearings I guess. Thanks so much for your patience..

You are welcome! I didn't see this post as I was out of town. Is your slip turning out?
