Invisible Zipper and French Seams I have inserted an invisible zip and want to french seam the rest of the seam.

As the material is fairly light, I thought I would try and french seam both side seams. I am not sure how to handle the seam at the end of the zip. Any suggestions??? Many thanks, Janine.

Something like this, Burda tutorial - Hong Kong Binding Seam Finish, will work. The Hong Kong finish, or any other finish that leaves the seam open is an easy way to have a smooth transition from end of zipper into the rest of the seam. This will be on your hip, so smooth is good. Post if you are determined to use a French Seam. I couldn't find an online tutorial but I can describe it in a million words or less. in the meantime I will try to find and bump some past threads with links on finishing seams. ------ I have no idea what Apple thought I was saying so be a Peach and credit anything bizarre to auto correct.
a7yrstitch   Intermediate TX USA Member since 4/1/08 Posts: 4375	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 3/9/13 10:39 AM I can't locate my all time favorite from Threads, but this link shows some simple sewn finishes, Machine Sewn Seam Finishes. If you opt for a machine sewn finish you can reinforce your loosely woven fabric by applying a narrow strip of light weight fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the cut seam edge before you apply the sewn seam edge finish. Finishing the raw edge would be a first step for me. Preshrink the interfacing before you use it unless you have purchased from a reliable source that indicates you don't need to do that. When you fuse it to the fabric, let it lay flat - do not stretch it. Practice on scraps first. My machine has a lovely overcast stitch - your machine may have a nice stitch that will work well for this type of finish. ------ I have no idea what Apple thought I was saying so be a Peach and credit anything bizarre to auto correct.
