I just got back from the Expo. I thought it was great! Did anyone else go? I was surprised that Vogue Fabrics from Chicago wasn't there this year.
I took a class in learning to quilt, color theory, needle felting and stash busting. The shopping was also wonderful. I could buy all the things that no stores around here offer. The internet is great, but it is also wonder to see the product before you buy.

I am new to ASG and our Chapter charters a bus each year but I couldnt fit it in. I guess this is a new location- used to be in Tampa? Heard that the first year in Lakeland was way too spread out, poor accoustics- so bad you couldnt hear any of the classes you took. And to get something to eat was most inconvenient- too far and not enough time.
So did you go up for the day or overnight? Was sound system good this year? Time to eat between sessions?
I will plan time into March 2014 and hope to go.

This thread is also discussed Here: Lakeland Expo Go to page 4. Below is what I wrote there.

I was there on Thursday. My Dh decided to go down with me (but not to the expo) and we stayed in a B&B about 3 minutes from the expo. I had a very nice time.

I didn't want to invest too much $$ in something I had never been to - so only took one class - the Cynthia Guffey class on fitting a loose jacket - I loved that class!!! and Cynthia!!! Next year I am taking everyone of her classes.

I was disappointed that the food vendors had no vegetarian option. The salads were all pre-made with meat and cheese on them - as were the wraps. Fortunately I snuck in an apple and some peanuts - so I was ok. Then when Dh came and picked me up at 6 PM we went to the Chipotle's right down the road a bit.

I enjoyed the shopping - though I didn't purchase too much - no fabric at all. Almost all of it was quilting fabric. The places that had garment fabric didn't have anything that interested me enough to buy it. I did get two rulers and some specific pins that C. Guffey suggested. And I did buy two more of her patterns. And a purse magnet. That's about it for me. The one fabric I was sorely tempted to buy was the laminate for Amy Butler - those were beautiful and felt so nice - but they were pricey and I wouldn't use them until some time later on - so I left them for this year and will plan to try for them next time around.

I have never been before, so I can't answer to location. I only took one class - and it was in a classroom. we had no problems there. Plenty of room. If you mean the make and take type classes - I didn't actually do any of those - but I didn't see any problems from my limited experience with those. The talks from the stage were fine. I could hear with no problem and there were tables and seats all up close to there.

There were several stations of food vendors. And plenty of seating. My problem with the food was mentioned in the post above - no options at all for vegetarian preferences. Even if the meat and cheese were to be on the side, it would have been preferable - but it was all mixed in and no way to separate it out. It was a very limited menu and all was prepared elsewhere and trucked in.

I went for the day - but I stayed overnight at a B&B close by. If my husband doesn't go down with me next year (he went this time - though not in to the Expo) then I will plan to try to stay at the Hyatt right next door. I don't want to have to drive those downtown streets. Lakeland is small, but the center downtown area is congested (I am used to rural driving).

There is no designated time for lunch - you just have to schedule it in. My class was from 9 to 11:30. I went to the stage area for the fashion show at noon. Then I ate lunch and then shopped the rest of the afternoon. I was actually done for my purposes about 4:00. So I just went and sat in the stage area until the drawings (I didn't win anything.)

I do plan to go next year and take more classes. Until the schedule comes out I won't know exactly which ones or for how many days.
