Hello!

I know this is my first post, but I have been lurking for a longtime now and have picked up some wonderful tips. Thank you everyone!

I'm needing help in identifying a source where I can buy Shiny "Wetlook" Polyester or Nylon (preferably black). I've seen this type of fabric in athletic pants, shorts, jackets, and for use in "Puffy Jackets" I've tried several sites that sell tricot nylon and "shiny" polyester but any of the swatches I have ordered haven't been what I'm looking for.

I've included a couple of links to garments that are made of the type of Polyester I am looking for. (don't worry I'm not actually looking to make a Puffy Jacket)

I personally own a light windbreaker made of this very type of fabric but all it says is "Polyester"

Here are some links to garments shown online made out of the "wet look" Polyester I'm looking for.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Here's one hint from the Amazon listing:

Quote:
30-denier Ballistic rip-stop nylon shell

I really don't think you'll need 'ballistic' nylon, but you might try searching those terms. Try some of the outdoor wilderness type places, most are in the US Northwest. Or call Rose City Textiles. (I think that's the name.)

Have you tried Rip-Stop Nylon?

What are you planning on using it for? That will make a difference on the kind of fabric that may be suitable.

Seconding a search for "ripstop" -- it comes in both matte and shiny varieties and in a variety of weights. I've only sewn with it once and it was a pain to work with -- the fabric I had didn't heal if pinned it and the first piece I had ended up not waterproof as intended because I'd put a lot of little holes in it by pinning.

thank you all for your suggestions!

I have ordered a bunch of swatches from Rose City Textiles, hopefully one of those will be what I'm looking for.

I will also try looking into the Ballistic Nylon which was mentioned.

As for what I'm making, I'm trying to make a couple of light jackets for a costume for some friends. It seems this type of wet looking light weight Polyester is more popular in Europe than it is here in the States.

Thank you everyone for your help!
