I went to a local guild quilting show yesterday. It was very nice. They had a lot of beautiful quilts to look at. Got some ideas. Played with a $15K long arm (boy that was fun, almost like a embroidery machine but for quilts). My friend who I took who isn't a quilter saw a friend of hers who was a friend of a member of the quilt guild and we were all talking and she invited me to check out the guild. I'm thinking about it. I really don't think I have the time and energy to participate like I'd eventually want to. Lots of vendors but I was good. I only brought 4 pieces in the scrap room, it had all the used fabric in it, found some CW pieces $4.00 total but a few of the pieces smell a little mildewy so I will see if I'm keeping them after they are washed. My friend who went with me whom I had made the quilt for told me nothing was as pretty to her as the quilt I made her. That made the show for me. She has an art and music background so she really liked the beauty of the quilts. It was a fun day. I was going to take some pictures on my phone but I didn't really see anyone else doing it and I didn't know if it would be considered be bad mannered or un-respectful so I didn't.

I too enjoy going to the local quilt guild shows. It's interesting to see what the "hot project" was for the year.

As for pictures, when I attend any type of guild show, I try really hard to remember to ask as I pay to go in if photos are allowed. It seems that smaller guilds, everyone knows everyone else and don't take so many photos. Maybe they have plenty of opportunity outside the show and guild to see each other's quilts?

I hear you on the joining a guild - someday....

Join the guild if you can. I have learned so much from mine, and the workshops they bring in are pheonominal!

Photos, some do, some are quilt specific on which ones are a don't photograph. Better not too, than have someone come running and ask you to erase your image.

Hmmm.. Quiltingwolf, now that I see your post, I also see my post-it on my desktop saying "check out Quilt Show at Goucher College 3/16-3/17".

Guess I missed that one I wonder sometimes why I bother with notes to myself

Sorry you missed it. I think I saw from another post you are in MD? It's every two years and if the guild has their way will continue there and it's a beautiful campus. About 5 minutes away from me. I went to their show back in 2003 when it was as Shepard Pratt. It's a much bigger show now. Don't forget the Quilting and Sewing Expo at the Convention Center in May.

Yes, I am in MD. I was down by the inner harbor for 12 years but now I am in northern Baltimore county. While I do quilt once in a while I was looking forward to going to see what others are doing and find some local sources for fabric and supplies. I am sick of JA's and while I love shopping online (especially with two toddlers) there is only so much you can touch and feel on the internet with your eyes.

I am really looking forward to the Expo at the Convention Center, more for the classes. I have never taken an actual class in my life and really look forward to finding a shortcut or two by doing things the "right" way. I may need to set an alarm on my computer though the rate my memory is going

Have you ever been to Stitches in Timonium? They are a Janome dealer but more importantly a quilt shop. They are tucked in there behind the fair grounds. I'm in Parkville.

No, I have not. I think they are on a little map of quilt shops I was given at Bear Paws though. I will stop by the next time I am in Timonium. I live in Kingsville now, but am always out that way. The kids pediatrician is still out there and I will be out at the fairgrounds for the bid kids tot swap sale in early April (without kids even!)
