Date: 3/18/13 11:13 AM I signed up for this class & have been watching it. Peggy Martin does an excellent job teaching this class. I've never tried paper piecing before, but just made my 1st block & it turned out great.
Just wondered if anyone else is taking it & what you've made. ------ Beverly

Date: 3/19/13 8:07 AM Oh! I have this class! It's great! I used it as a resource when I made the Mariner's Compass for my son's quilt back. I used the Strip Paper Pieced techniques on a Fon's and Porter pattern. It turned out beautiful...esp. for a Nervous Nelly Novice! And minimal fabric waste.

It's only one 20" block for the back of a Modern Quilt. Used the very limited scraps from the quilt top, so judicious use of fabric was imperative. The finished block is waiting for my skill set to catch up to the idea. I have to piece the complete quilt back with several different design elements: flying geese units, the Mariner's compass, and "solid" blocks.
Doing the trial run on a another pieced back, now. Not so bad. We'll see how the machine quilting through all those seams, top and back, goes. ------ Brother Innovis NX650Q; Brother Nouvelle 1500; Brother CS6000i; Brother 1034D |
