Okay DD calls me, with urgency in her voice, at 8:01 she needs me to bring something to school. Okay I'll hurry. Don't have time to do much with my hair because school will start soon and it will take me that long to get there. @#*! So, okay I'll meet you at your locker. All the way on the other side of the school mind you but I don't want her to be late for her class. So okay on my way. Hurry get my shoes on run out door. Get to school. Can't get close so end up parking at end. Got out of car missed the already foot steps made in snowbank and stepped in a pile of snow. GRRR So get on sidewalk and Stomp stomp to get snow off Oh no look around to see if anyone is close by because I had two different shoes on Okay I'll jog or run swiftly to the school on sidewalk so no one sees the shoes right? well looking around people start looking my way i'm sure cuz I'm running. Oh please quit looking my way. Get in school look down long hall see all these kids my kids know looking towards me. Think fast! I dart into an office of a gal I know. I tell her DD was to meet me at front door will you call her here. (thank goodness there is a desk between us). She replies "I bet she wants you to come down to her room" I stood there hoping she will soon say I'll page her. Good she does. Relief until I hear voices and the door behind me opens. Oh good just a 1st grader. DD comes in door "mom you told me you would meet me...." I stopped her in her tracks. "look down" I said. She said what? Look Down and you will know. She looks down sees my two different shoes and started to laugh. I said "Not a word"! She leaves laughing and I did a sprint out the door and out the front doors down the sidewalk. Then DH calls me where did you go I've been trying you. Told him the story. Probably big mistake he couldn't stop laughing and when I pulled up at home he came over to my vehicle and I got out and he busted a gut. And very nicely said "I'm sure nobody noticed" as he got back in his vehicle laughing. Okay now I can laugh too. But at the time not so funny.
So I guess the take away from this is: turn the light on in the entry way to see which pair of tennis shoes your putting on no matter how much of a hurry your in!! Oh, and good things come out of all bad things. I guess I could have never stepped in the snow bank and then never knew I had different shoes on and walked past all kinds of adults and kids I and my kids knew

My DH once wore different-color shoes to work: one black loafer and one cordovan loafer. He was not paying attention and didn't even notice until a shoe-shine guy on the sidewalk said something. LOL We still laugh about that and it was ages ago.

I wasn't quite sure where you were going with that but relieved it was just mis-matched shoes.

What a devoted mom! Anyone could see that you were in a hurry, and I'm sure mismatched shoes wouldn't be the first thing that would go wrong...

Oh I feel your pain! The ONE time my husband's ex-wife came to my office to "drop off something important" (it wasn't important at all, she was just being a you-know-what)...I look down as I'm going around my desk to "greet" her and I had two different colored shoes on.

I can always use a laugh..

I keep wishing a new fad would start.. one that was based on unmatched socks.. How cute.. and practical.. Maybe we can mix unmatched socks with unmatched shoes.. At least.. you will have been the first on the block to wear the newest in fashion.. Very edgy of you

Poorpigling, if you were a 12 year old attending school in the Kansas City area you would be wearing mis-matched socks. And the louder the better!

And here in Florida, it would be assumed that it was some kind of gang symbol, and you would be suspended.

Campers do unmatched shoes, a fashion statement, or they did. I know this because I ordered a pair of ankle boots online, and when they arrived one tied at the side, one at the back. I complained. My daughters thought this was a hilarious example of my lack of fashion awareness. Reassured that they were in fact the bees knees in boots, I wear them with pride, but get some funny looks. Both versions are nice, but they still look to me as if the designer couldn't pick one, or the factory packing department got in a mess.
My worst dressed in a hurry to get the kids to school moment was when an item of the previous day's underwear worked its way down the inside of the leg of my jeans and dropped out at the ankle. Aahh motherhood, precious moments.
