This is my first post, everyone - hello!
I'm hoping I can get some expert advice from you: I have some beautiful hand-sequined chiffon that my daughter bought for me in Italy. I am looking to make a lined tank with it, but have never been able to find a good pattern for it. It needs to be for a woven fabric, and I'd like one with no darts, but some shape in the waistline, and either keyhole opening in the back or a zipper. I've sort of settled on Simplicity 8523, eliminating the darts, but I'm wondering if anyone might have some recommendations? I know I should probably just try to draft one myself, right?

Welcome to PR! Good luck with your fabric. I think your pattern would work, but it will not look right in a woven fabric without the darts. You can put darts in chiffon and clean up the seams so they look fine.

Most of the time when sequined fabric is sewn you have to remove any sequins that would end up in the seam line. Otherwise you'll get weird looking seams and possibly broken needles.

Be sure to do a review when you're done so we can all see your top!

It usually takes me 3 muslins before I am confident in cutting the fashion fabric. I would also try to use the dart - it will be a nicer fit....good luck.

Eliminating darts would depend on how big you are. I also suggest muslins and buying some inexpensive fabric like chiffon to test with. You want this to be great so some practice pieces would be worth the time

Thanks, everyone - I'll test with muslins first, with and without darts, to see how this pattern might work with this fabric.
