Good Morning serger experts! I'm thinking of making a little girls tiered skirt with a shirred waist and I need to know how to use elastic thread to do this. What setup is best - with instructions - if there are any Babylock Evolution users out there who can lend a hand, it would save me a LOT of time and frustration!! Thanks in advance.

If you just want to gather the fabric for a ruffled look you can set you differential to 2.0 and gather. If you want to sew a straight piece to a ruffled piece you can add a gathering foot (it gathers, sews and finishes in 1 step.) Most dresses that use an elastic for this type of work are sewn with a straight stitch and the elastic is in the bobbin. When steamed the elastic shrinks giving a smocked look especially because several rowes are used. This could be done with a cover stitch machine and the elastic would be in the looper. You could try putting the elastic into the upper looper, tie onto a tread and pull through machine. Not sure if it will feed throught the self threading paths and the auto tension may be too tight.
