Please forgive-I KNOW there must be information on how to embroidery without hooping the actual fabric-on PR but I cannot find it. It may be because I don't even know what to call it. Since I have three children under 5-I'm going to blame my caring for them for lack of cognitive functioning at the moment. (has NOTHING to do with them)

Google search for "machine embroidery without hooping" will bring up lots of places with instructions for you.

But basically you can either (1) use a sticky stabilizer, or (2) use a temporary spray mount over a stabilizer. I use the temporary spray mount because it doesn't gum things up as much.

Sorry-meant to say I did google-and all I found were wasn't helpful-it required more work than just hooping.
(it is funny when people don't spend 2.5 seconds on google. ) I'll try using your exact language-which I think I did-we shall see.
Thanks.

Here's Flying Needles tutorial. It's written without pictures, but the information is good.

Thanks for ETA-advice. That should work perfect.
Did google your exact language-got a few more helpful results. I think I googled "with no hoop"--which, of course, is a whole different deal.

There are also good tutorials and project instructions on the Embroidery Library website.

Try Googling with the term 'hoopless machine embroidery'. "Hoopless" is how I've always heard it called.

There are two options for what you are asking.

(1) You do hoop the fabric, but you do not have to hoop the stabilizer. This you can just slip under the hoop after attaching it to the embroidery machine.

This works for cut away and for tear away but not for the filmy water soluble stabilizer.

(2) And, then there is hoopless embroidery where you hoop a sticky back stabilizer or use spray adhesive for fabric (Sulky) on a regular stabilizer. Then you hand press the item to be machine embroidered onto the sticky surface. This is used for fabrics with a heavy nap like terry or velvet. Or small items like ribbon.

Here is a tutorial with photos from Embroidery Library showing how to use the the sticky stabilizer.

Embroidery Library has changed the format of their website and it does not seem to be as easy to find the techniques as it use to be.

PS - No one is going to hate you. Anyone who has given birth knows the mind is the first thing to go!
