I walked through my local mall yesterday just to see what was popular for Spring. I was pleasantly surprised that everyone is embracing bold greens for color (it's my fav), and that the striped maxi dresses I've been sewing are spot-on trendwise. One other thing struck me - peplum tops. Everywhere. I've seen some good patterns on here for them, and thought that maybe I'd learn how to make one, but I work at a gym so I'm not sure where I'd wear it. Every store I went to had at least one, though.

Anyone out there wear peplum tops?

I would love to wear a peplum top but I don't have one. I completely missed that trend. That's because I do not go to stores/malls for clothes anymore. Well, I guess I should just add one more thing to my long "things i want to sew" list.

PEPUMS seam to show up about every 15 years. But they are always a short lived style.I did a fabulous peplum wedding dress around 1993 in rum pink with lots of ecru french lace.It was really storybook looking. They give a kind of vintage look like the suits women were wearing in the late 1800's with the longer fitted jacket over a full skirt. Then in the 1930's with ankle length pencil skirts. It's pretty and feminine.

I noticed that when I took the Craftsy Plus Size in Nov, the peplum style pattern was included. I thought it was a throw back to what I wore in mid 90's. Never made it but learned tons from the class.

Good to know! I don't see this fitting issue addressed much.

It would be nice if peplums showed up here. It would be fun, & I think it would look good on.
Only seen one top (Ann Taylor?) but then this area is not known for fashion...

Are Peplums for younger women? At 58, I just couldn't see myself in a peplum.

Anyone can wear a peplum and be flattered by it! It is just a matter of choosing the right length and the right amount of fullness.
